Hello,
My name is Father John J. Slovikovski, and I am the Pastor of the Church of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary that has served the 8th Ward community of Johnstown for almost 100 years. Although demographically, we have become more mature in our membership, we continue to bring in new members and families to our community of faith. We thank you for taking the opportunity to view our website and see if we can offer you an opportunity to become a member of our Catholic Faith Community. Please take the opportunity to visit the site returning to this page often and to take the regular opportunity to read my column “From the Pastor’s Desk” that is part of our weekly bulletin. Know that we strive to be true to our parish mission statement written below.
Again, welcome. If there is anything we can do for you, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Mission Statement
The Church of the Visitation is a Catholic Community rooted in God’s ongoing present among us in Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh, and by the Holy Spirit who assists us in prayerful refection upon God’s Word and the celebration of the Sacraments which culminate in the gathered assembly celebrating the Eucharist. From this celebration our community goes forth to instruct all persons in the faith and to engage in the work of justice in all in our foundational relationships with God, our neighbor, ourselves, and our world. Therefore, we strive to engage the universal call to holiness in the spirit of Vatican II through our commitment to Christ, through the special intersession of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the Visitation
All are welcome to pray with our community regardless of race, gender, nationality, social status, sexuality, or any other experience that often can lead to marginalization in our broken world which allows for diverse membership in our community. We seek to integrate millennials and centennials into our faith community while continuing to benefit from the more mature members of our communion in faith.
Our community is dynamic, seeking to build the Kingdom of God in our portion of the Lord’s vineyard. All are welcome to join our in our journey as the Pilgrim People of God.
We hope to engage members and to invite new members to share in our celebrations of the Lord through WORD, SACRAMENT AND ACTS OF JUSTICE.
